BRUCE B. DARLING
SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT--UNIVERSITY AND EXTERNAL RELATIONS
Delegation of Authority--Authority to Act for the President
To ensure that the University always has in the Office of the President an Officer with authority to act on necessary matters, Standing Order of The Regents 100.4 , Duties of the President of the University, provides in (a) as follows:
* * *
...The President may delegate any of the duties of the office except service as an ex officio Regent.
* * *
This letter affirms my delegation of authority of January 29, 1985 (DA 0857) which states that in my absence or in case of my inability to act, the Provost and Senior Vice President--Academic Affairs is authorized to act for me in the exercise of the President's duties other than service as an ex officio Regent. When both the Provost and Senior Vice President--Academic Affairs and I are absent, the Senior Vice President--Business and Finance is empowered to act for me.
This letter is in addition to that delegation and supersedes my delegation of authority of July 30, 1997 (DA 2086), and establishes that when those named in the preceding paragraph are absent, you are empowered to act for me in urgent matters.
In all cases, matters requiring the President's action or the President's signature shall be presented to my staff for orderly disposition.
Sincerely,
Richard C. Atkinson
President
