CHANCELLORS
Delegation of Authority--Conferral of Degrees in Course
Prior to January, 1980, Standing Order 100.4(b) of The Regents required specific delegation by the President to authorize campus Officers to confer degrees in course. This was interpreted to mean that the President must delegate each year directly to each involved campus Officer the authority to confer such degrees at commencement ceremonies. In January, 1980, The Regents amended the Standing Order to remove the requirement for specific delegations by the President. Accordingly, effective immediately, you are authorized to designate each year those Officers at your respective campuses who are to confer degrees in course. University Officers within Systemwide Administration who are invited to participate in conferral of degrees in course will continue to be authorized to do so upon specific delegation by the President.
